I’ve been doing a lot of research about the iPad lately and it’s potential use as a music instruction tool as well as an instrument. As someone who can play the guitar and hack his way through a bass line I see some potential for piano and drum apps being a good way to get those instruments on demos I record at my home studio. How ever when it comes to guitar apps, are these going to be replacing services like Guitar Tricks or DVD lessons like Learn and Master Guitar as self study instruction tools?
As of right now the best some of these apps can do from a teaching perspective is help you find chords and scales. There isn’t, as of yet, a good video teaching app that will help you with important things like how to hold a guitar, how to correctly use your fretting hand etc.
So I don’t think these apps will take over the self study realm for guitar players. How ever as a benefit to those who can already play? HUGE HUGE HUGE… you can have more guitar information and theory at your finger tips then ever before.
