As the second most popular and learned instrument Piano is another course they’ve decided to offer.

Like their Guitar course, Legacy has opted to find a top notch instructor to record the lessons with so that students receive the best quality possible for their money. So who did they find to record their piano lessons dvd?

Will Barrow is a Grammy award winning pianist based in Nasvhille TN. He’s played with some really big names in the music world an is an accomplished singer songwriter as well.

Like most professional musicians he’s spent plenty of time teach others how to play the instrument he loves and that comes through when you’re watching the dvd videos with this course.

If you’re currently learning the guitar and are thinking of becoming a multi instrumentalist, or if you haven’t started learning the guitar yet and would prefer the piano, check out their course. There’s not one better available.

While LearningGuitarToday.com focuses a lot on online guitar lessons, there are other avenues for self study besides just online videos.

While I haven’t completed it yet I’m going to be doing a Learn and Master guitar review for this site. It’s probably the #1 competitor to all guitar courses online out there. It was the first home study course created by the large company that is Legacy learning systems and launched them into creating a multitude of other courses for drums, piano, blues guitar, painting and more.

If you’re not keen on watching guitar lessons on your computer screen but still like the idea of learning to play on your own I think you’ll enjoy learn and master guitar. It’s about the cost of 6-8 months of online lessons from a site like JamPlay, but you have the course material and content for ever once you buy it once. This way you’ll be able to refresh and review anything you need.

Beyond beginner guitar lessons there is also a blues guitar dvd put out by the same company.

Learn and Master blues guitar spotlight course is a great intro to the blues guitar genre and will get you up to speed with not only the basics but some advanced skills like scales, soloing and varying techniques and styles of the 12 bar blues progression. This course is a lot of fun for anyone interested in the blues and has the basics of the acoustic or electric guitar under their fingers. I’d urge you to check it out.

I’ve been doing a lot of research about the iPad lately and it’s potential use as a music instruction tool as well as an instrument. As someone who can play the guitar and hack his way through a bass line I see some potential for piano and drum apps being a good way to get those instruments on demos I record at my home studio. How ever when it comes to guitar apps, are these going to be replacing services like Guitar Tricks or DVD lessons like Learn and Master Guitar as self study instruction tools?

As of right now the best some of these apps can do from a teaching perspective is help you find chords and scales. There isn’t, as of yet, a good video teaching app that will help you with important things like how to hold a guitar, how to correctly use your fretting hand etc.

So I don’t think these apps will take over the self study realm for guitar players. How ever as a benefit to those who can already play? HUGE HUGE HUGE… you can have more guitar information and theory at your finger tips then ever before.

You’ve probably heard the terminology 12 bar blues before if you’ve been reading about guitar or playing for a while. It’s the primer you want to learn before you move into blues specific style guitar lessons and that is what this article is going to focus on. I’ll share with you what chords to play in each key and in what pattern to play those chords to make it a 12 bar blues progression.

The 12 bar blues is a pattern of notes. The notes that make up that pattern are taken from a particular scale, possibly the A, G or E major scales (there are other scales besides major scales you can use but for this example we’ll only consider major scales).

To know which notes to take from a scale for the 12 bar blues we must refer to the numbers of the notes in a scale. Where are the numbers in a scale? Well they start at one on the first note and go from left to right counting up one for each note.

So if we look at an example with the G major scale which looks like this: G – A – B – C – D – E – F# – G

G is #1, A is #2, B is #3, C is #4 and so on.

Understanding the numbers that correspond to notes in a major scale we can now plug them into the 12 bar blues pattern that looks like this: 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 4 – 4 – 1 – 1 – 5 – 4 – 1 – 5.

So if we were playing the 12 bar blues in the Key of G we’d be playing the notes G, C and D in the pattern above.

How do we strum these notes? What type of guitar chords do you play? Well that part is a little more difficult to explain in an article so I’ve recorded a short video lesson to go along with this article. Watch it below as I give you further examples of how to piece together a 12 bar blues progression and also show you a couple of ways to play it on the neck.

Ready to get serious about learning to play the guitar? Why not take matters into your own hands and try guitar dvd lessons so you can study on your own. Video lessons provide you with the one-on-one approach of private instruction but the freedom of self study.

So many beginners get into playing the guitar for a love of the blues, the boring thing is that for so many they may not have the basic beginner understanding of chords, scales and keys to jump right in.

This beginner drop D blues lesson video I found from JamPlay’s online membership is perfect if you’re just getting started.

If you’re a complete beginner, as in can’t play a chord yet, JamPlay is a great community you can check out for some basic lesson videos that will get you up to speed fast.

That lesson just covered a ton of stuff, starting with Drop D tuning, some great finger style/picking, a few new chords possibly depending on what your playing level is and a great 12 bar blues you can play with those chords.

I love watching these actionable lessons, that is a video that you can watch and put into play right away. I’ve used JamPlay jut for this purpose for the last few months, to pick up new styles & tips that I can integrate into my playing right away. You can learn more about Jamplay in our JamPlay review.

Hope you enjoyed that lesson video.
