Beginner Guitar System Review

beginner guitar system courseThe Beginner Guitar System, by instructor Nate Savage, is a 10 disc beginner guitar course aimed at taking the either a novice guitarist or absolute beginner and getting them to an intermediate level in just a few months.

The course sells for $97.00, which is a solid price point for the amount of content included, and uses three different teaching materials, a lesson book, jam tracks and HD lesson videos,

What’s Included

Of the 10 discs that come with the Beginner Guitar System 4 of those contain lesson videos, 2 are play along video tracks and 3 are play along audio tracks and one is a metronome track. There’s also a 174 page workbook included.

Using the Beginner Guitar System

This course uses a 3 step approach to teaching you the guitar. The first step is the lesson video. Each video is shot in HD and uses beautiful on screen graphics and multiple angle camera shots to ensure you can easily follow along.

Once you complete the lesson video it’s time to reference the work book for practice exercises and a review of what you learned. The lesson book is what you’ll use primarily for practicing, although you can refer to the videos if you need a refresher on a topic.

Finally once you master a particular lesson topic it’s time to put on either one of the play along DVDs or Cds so you can play along. The lesson book will tell you which discs and tracks you use for play along in each lesson.

You should be prepared to spend about an hour once a week watching your lessons and reviewing the material in the lesson book, and then about 20-30 minutes each other day practicing.

Who Should Consider this Course?

The Beginner Guitar System should be considered by any beginner guitarist who has either never played guitar before or who has played before but hasn’t learned much more then their basic chords and strumming techniques.

Also anyone who isn’t keen on watching videos online and would prefer watching them on their TV should consider the Beginner Guitar System since the videos are on DVD.

Cons to the Beginner Guitar System

Over all there isn’t a lot bad I can say about this program. The video production is top notch, all the important topics are covered and there are some great practice tools included with the play along video and audio tracks.

The one downside compared to other online guitar lessons is that there is only beginner guitar lessons taught. With some other courses such as JamPlay or Guitar Tricks all the beginner content is taught as well as intermediate lessons all in the same place. This allows you to grow as a guitar player without having to find a new source of instruction.

Should you buy it?

For $97.00 the Beginner Guitar System offers about 8-12 months of guitar material for the beginner guitarist. That’s less then $10 bucks a month. I believe that if you’re serious about putting in the time to learn guitar then this course is well worth the money.
